Advice for Aspiring Beauty Bloggers

What would you say to someone who wants to start a beauty blog but is too scared to?

We all been there, trust me. I started my first beauty blog when I was 18 and deleted it after a week of having it, because I was scared of not being “good”. You just have to do it, it’s your call to make, no one can do it but you! The whole process of blogging will teach you many new things, you’ll improve with time and became better at it. There is no right way to start amazing blog, to have amazing photos or writing style, it definitely comes with time!

What are your Do’s and Don’ts while starting out as a novice beauty blogger?

I would say you be you, as cliché as it sounds. Don’t worry about what someone will say about your blog or your photos. You don’t have to have professional camera at the begging, your phone will do just fine. Definitely keep posting, you should have new blog post at least once in 2 weeks. I posted my first blog post and then made a 3 months break, that’s not the way to do it! I would also advice to edit your photos, because that will make a lot of difference. Also, make social media accounts for your blog, because that will help you to gain more followers. One last thing engage with blogging community, read other blogs, gain inspiration and blog post ideas!

In your opinion, what do you think makes a great beauty blogger?

A great beauty blogger in my opinion is someone who works hard on their blog no matter is it a hobby or their side job. I also really respect bloggers who take their own photos instead of using photos from internet. Someone who forms a special relationship with followers, who you can trust for recommendations and opinion on products that’s why it’s important to show your personality through blog and do some personal blog posts. I also think that great beauty blogger is someone who does in-depth reviews of products, who really gives you good and bad sides of products and you can see that their opinion is 100% honest

What would you say to someone who wants to start a beauty blog but is too scared to?

I was really scared about starting a beauty blog because I didn’t want anyone to find out in case I got picked on for creating one – even though the blogging industry is huge and is growing all the time to some people it can be seen as weird. However you need to just ignore them. Creating your own little space in a corner of the internet can do so many good things for yourself (I treat it as a little escape from real life drama) and you can really help other people. I say go for it because if you really want to do it then nothing should hold you back.

What are your Do’s and Don’ts while starting out as a novice beauty blogger?

It’s so cliché but DO be original and DON’T try to copy anyone else’s photos or writing style. Writing style comes naturally and can really express your personality. Something which is unique will draw more viewers to you sight. Another DO is get yourself out there and contact other bloggers or share some blogger love. If you just write blog posts then you won’t grab a huge audience. PROMOTE YOURSELF… but DON’T spam. DON’T compare yourself to anyone else either. I have really struggled with this and still do – it’s natural – but it doesn’t do self-esteem any good. Be confident and proud of your blog.

In your opinion, what do you think makes a great beauty blogger?

I think a good beauty blogger is one that is honest with their audience and make their posts relatable. You often get people blogging about different products each post and always saying something good to try to get freebies off of brands. But then you can make your audience believe it is actually good – when it’s not. Being dishonest is never good. Also if you can make your posts chatty and relatable then personally I find them more enjoyable to read because I am like ‘HEY SAME’.

What would you say to someone who wants to start a beauty blog but is scared to?

Do it! Honestly, I was thinking about starting a blog months before I did, and I really wish I started earlier. Blogging has taught me so much, and I’ve met some incredible people through doing it. If you don’t want to put ‘your name’ out there, or keep it a secret from people you know personally, you can always blog anonymously. I know so many ‘anonymous’ bloggers, and they’re killing the blogging game!

What are your do’s and don’ts while starting out as a novice beauty blogger?

DO be yourself – everyone else is already taken. Stay active, guest write on other blogs, make sure your photos are bright and clear, make blogger friends and lastly, write ALL your ideas down! You think you’re going to remember that amazing post idea, but I can guarantee that you’re going to end up forgetting it (I’ve done that way too many times!).

DON’T steal content and pass it off as your own, ignore comments, join in on blogging drama (you’ll be surprised by how much there is) and most importantly, don’t fret about your stats. The amount of followers you have means nothing. The thing that really matters is that you’re having fun running your blog!

In your opinion, what do you think makes a great beauty blogger?

Personally I think that showing off their personality, having clear and bright photos, lots of information in their posts and connecting with their readers and followers always will make a great beauty blogger. So in short terms, be yourself, be friendly, be informative and get yourself in a bright spot for photos!

What would you say to someone who wants to start a beauty blog but is scared to?

Do not let your fear stop you from starting a blog. At first it will be tough and it will seem like no one is reading your posts, but the blogging community is the most supportive group of people I know and if you keep at it, you can reach your goals with blogging. Also, do not wait any longer to start you blog because the only regret I have when it comes to blogging is that I did not start sooner.

What are your do’s and don’ts while starting out as a novice beauty blogger?

Do blog about what you love. Whether you want to share your reviews, your makeup looks, your wish lists and hauls, or your makeup and skin care routines, just make sure it is something you enjoy because that is what makes blogging fun. Do be consistent. Whether you decide to post every day or once a week, make sure it is consistent. Other bloggers are less likely to follow you if your posts are sporadic because they will not know when to expect your next post. Do blog about products you already own. If you already have products you like and would recommend, then review them! Also, if you have products you would not recommend, do not be scared to share your opinion because bloggers like reading both the good and bad reviews!  Do be active in the community. Follow other beauty bloggers you like and like and comment on their posts. If you support other bloggers, then they will support you too in your blogging journey. Do not buy products just to review them on your blog. This leads to buying products you may not necessarily need and will not use. Do not compare yourself to other beauty bloggers. If you compare yourself to bloggers who have tons of followers and likes on their posts, you may will feel like your blog is not good enough. Remember it takes time to grow your blog! Do not give up. At the beginning it is rough and you may only get a few likes on your posts, but just keep blogging and you will be able to reach your goals.

In your opinion, what do you think makes a great beauty blogger?

A great beauty blogger is someone who is honest in their posts and enjoys doing what they love.

What would you say to someone who wants to start a beauty blog but is scared to?

I would say to go for it. If you enjoy writing and love beauty then blogging can be so rewarding and you can meet so many fab people along the way! Chances are slim that you’re going to become an overnight sensation so if you’re only doing it for fame and freebies then maybe try something else as blogging can be a lot of hard work and there’s not always a lot of rewards but if you’re passionate about it then go for it!

What are your do’s and don’ts while starting out as a novice beauty blogger?

Do plan out your content – by that I mean figure out when you want to post and try to write your posts in advance

Don’t post everything at once – when you’re starting out it can be hard not to want to post everything as soon as you’ve written it but have some posts saved for later is so handy if you’re short on time or have writers block!

Do interact with other bloggers – the beauty blogging community is a really welcoming place and I’ve personally made so many friends though blogging! Twitter is great for meeting new bloggers and finding new blogs too!

Don’t compare your blog to others – there will always be someone who is gaining followers faster than you can count but you shouldn’t feel disheartened! If you’re putting effort into your own content then it will show.

Do what feels best for you and write about what you enjoy!

In your opinion, what do you think makes a great beauty blogger?

I love when you can tell a blogger is being themselves! Whether it’s giving an honest review about a product or creating a look if you’re trying to be someone else you’re readers will be able to sense that! Just because you’ve been sent a product to review doesn’t mean you have to love it, personally I love when bloggers are open and are more like a friend as it’s easier to trust their opinions!
